Part 1
Butterfly (paramount)
What effect does it create? a nice shadow under the nose
Why use it? considered beauty shots to kind of keep it to cover neck
How many lights or light sources? 2 light source 1 to reflect
Loop
What effect does it create? highlights one side and shadow on the other
Why use it? It looks different and unique
How many lights or sources?
Rembrandt

How many lights or light sources?
Split

Part 2
Fill Light- a supplementary light used in photography or filming that does not change the character of the main light and is used chiefly to lighten shadows.
Key Light- may determine the character of the lighting like the mood
Hair light- An Accent Light presumably limited to the top of the head. Sometimes only a Back Light with delusions of grandeur and fancy-colored gels
Background light- Reveals the character of the background and helps separate it from the subject.
Shadowless-The power of shadows is not in their potential to reveal as well as to conceal
Hard light-A relatively small, direct, usually focusable source, with or without lens, that produces strong High-lights and dark shadows.
Soft light-Diffused, Bounced, indirect light
Grey card-reflectance card used instead of a subject for a Reflected Light Meter reading
Reflector- Many items that can be used as a reflector
Diffuser-A Translucent material placed in front of a Light to soften Highlights and Shadows, reduce Contrast and increase Beam Angle.
Intensity (Strength, or how to set shutter speed and aperture's appropriate to portraits)
2:1 lighting ratio

Flash Photography Basic Concepts
Flash Fact #1
- Every flash photograph is two exposures in one
Flash Fact #2
-Fill flash can be used when subject is backlit or sidelit to eliminate silhouettes or shadows
Flash Fact #3
- Flash exposure is not affected by shutter speed
flash exposure and the effective range of your flash unit will be affected by aperture and iso
Flash Fact #4
- Flash illumination is dramatically affected by distance
Flash Fact #5
- Your camera measures ambient light and flash illumination separately
Flash Fact #6
- With automatic flash metering the flash illumination is measured after the shutter button is pressed and the flash output is adjusted accordingly.
Flash Fact #7
- Every SLR camera with a mechanical shutter box has a maximum flash sync shutter speed.
Flash Fact #8
- Harsh lighting washed out subjects and red eye can be eliminated by using diffusers and light
Flash Fact #9
- If it is possible to change the order of when the flash fires using rear curtain sync
Flash # 10
- Removing the flash the top of the camera helps eliminate red eye and unflattering shadows

Photo Journalism
Rule of thirds
The source of light would be outside light
This photo contains natural light due the consistency
This lighting was a little dim to release more of the emotion of sadness.
The photographer probably had to ask for permission or take this photo before anyone else was there.
Landscape
Leading lines and contrast
Uses the sun as light because he is outside and its a bright day.
Could use a slow shutter speed and needs a tripod.

Motion Photography
Rule Of Thirds
The light is outside lighting
This contains natural lighting.
The light was a bit bright which kind of shows more of the excitement
The photographer might have had to get close but in a spot where the equipment wouldn't have got wet.
Landscape Photography
Rule of thirds
light that is being used from outside
natural lighting
The light was very dark kind of reveals more of the light brought from the moon
The photographer may have needed a tripod.
Photojournalism
Rule of Thirds, Light as a subject
He uses the cannon ball as the source of light this adds more attention to the ball because it is lighting up and lighting up everything around it
This must have been really hard to capture. It need to be taken with a very fast shutter speed.
Portrait or landscape
Rule of thirds and light as a subject
He uses the sun as light source this allows there to be light as a subject due to the shadows from the trees
Needed a decently fast shutter speed because there is movement.
Leading lines and contrast
Uses the sun as light because he is outside and its a bright day.
Could use a slow shutter speed and needs a tripod.
